 Notes on using Easy Web Browsing 
1.  Easy Web Browsing is only available while you are using the Internet.
   
2.  The first time you use Easy Web Browsing, it may take some time to download. When you start it again, it is ready to use immediately.
*Download: To transmit data to personal computers via the Internet
   
3.  Easy Web Browsing can read in various languages, but it takes some time before the reading starts if you move to a page in a particular language for the first time. Please wait while the preparation for reading takes place. The page will be usable immediately the second time you use it and thereafter.
   
 

 Magnifying and Reading Text
 
1. Move the mouse pointer to the text that you want to be magnified. The text is gradually magnified from the beginning of the paragraph, and reading begins. You do not have to click the mouse.
*Click: Pressing the left button one time.

2. The magnification window shows the section of the Web page where the mouse pointer is pointing. This portion will be read out loud.

3. The text will be read continuously until the end of the paragraph, at which point it stops.

  Notes on Easy Web Browsing Reading
 
Each paragraph is read from the beginning to the end.
 
  Easy Web Browsing cannot read only one sentence in a paragraph or from the middle of a paragraph.
 
If you point to a paragraph, reading begins from the beginning of that paragraph.
 
  You do not need to point the mouse to the beginning of the paragraph.
 
Do not move the mouse while Easy Web Browsing is magnifying or reading text.
 
  Reading will stop if you move the mouse, and the reading portion will be switched to the new portion.
 
  * Responses may be delayed if you are reading a frame, long page, etc.
  * Some pages may not be readable.

 Operating Easy Web Browsing - Other Options
 
Linking to Other Pages
 
Move the mouse to a link and click it. When the mouse pointer is reshaped to look like a hand, that represents a link.
 
  When the link is displayed on a menu... When a portion of a sentence is the link...

To return to the first page.
 
To return to the page before the current one.
     
Click the Top button to display the page that came immediately after startup.   Click the Back button to display the page that came before the current page.

Stopping the Reading.
 
Quitting Easy Web Browsing.
     
Click the Stop button.   Click the Exit button. Easy Web Browsing stops speaking and magnifying text.

 Setting Easy Web Browsing Options
 You can change Easy Web Browsing speech rates, screen display sizes, and color settings, using buttons on the upper portion of the screen. Changed settings are not changed until the next time you start Easy Web Browsing.

Click the Rate buttons to adjust the speech rate in 5 steps.
• Speech slows each time you click down arrow
• Speech quickens each time you click up arrow
  Click the Volume buttons to adjust the speech loudness in 5 steps.
• Volume gets louder each time you click up arrow
• Volume gets quieter each time you click down arrow

Changing the Screen Display Size
   
     
You can adjust the screen display size within the range of 50% to 600% by clicking the Out button, In button, or using the Slider (magnifier icon).

The size becomes larger in the following order:
50-75-100-125-150-175-200-300-400-600% each time you click In (up arrow)

The size becomes smaller in the following order:
600-400-300-200-175-150-125-100-75-50% each time you click Out (down arrow)

To magnify beyond the values set with either the In or Out buttons, use the slider. Move the slider to the right to enlarge the text. Move the slider to the left to decrease the size of the text. Make sure you continue to hold the mouse button as you move the slider. When you release the mouse button (thus, releasing the slider), the screen is set up at that size.
* The display size when Easy Web Browsing is initially set up is 100%.
* The size of buttons and the size of the text on the buttons do not change.

Changing the Style
 
The style determines the foreground and background colors.

You can choose from 4 options:
  1. Black text on a white background with blue for links for normal display,
  2. Yellow text on a blue background with white for links,
  3. Black text on a yellow background with blue for links,
  4. Yellow text on a black background with white for links.
Click the Style button to cycle through these options.

* Click the Setting button for more detailed settings.

The following pictures show each style. The order shown is the order in which screen colors change each time you press the Style button.
 
  Types of styles

Printing
 
You can print out the page you are currently browsing by clicking the Print button. Printing starts immediately after you click the button.

If you want to change the printer settings, use the Windows Settings or Control Panel.

When a page that consists of frames is printed out, the frames will be printed out in the order shown in the following example.
*Frame: A way of configuring a page by partitioning one window into several areas and displaying separate contents in each area.

If you have changed the screen style or magnified a portion of the Web page, printing may not be done correctly. We recommend that you print a page when the sytle is set on normal display with no magnification.

Using the Keyboard
 
Alt Key Operations

Move the mouse to the upper operation panel and click an area other than buttons to start keyboard operations.

Then, press a key in the following list to select the button you want:

Alt + 1: Top
Alt + 2: Back
Alt + 3: Stop
Alt + 4: (Rate)down arrow
Alt + 5: (Rate)up arrow
Alt + 6: (Volume)down arrow
Alt + 7: (Volume)up arrow
Alt + 8: Out
Alt + 9: In
Alt + C: Style
Alt + P: Print
Alt + S: Setting
Alt + 0(Zero): Exit To indicate that the button has been selected, it will be surrounded by an orange frame. Press Enter or the Spacebar to perform the button's function.
* Letter keys are not case-sensitive. Upper and lowercase letters both work.
* You cannot use the keyboard to close the setting panel. Click the Exit button.
* You can also use the Tab key to select buttons.
* You can use the keyboard to operate the slider, too. See following section for instructions.


♦  Using the Tab Key

Click an area other than the operation buttons by moving the mouse to the upper portion of the buttons.
Each time you press the Tab key, a button is selected in the order listed below. If you hold the Shift key while pressing Tab, a selection is made in the opposite order.

The selected button is indicted by an orange frame. Press Enter or the Spacebar to perform the button's function.

 

Operating the Slider Using the Keyboard
 
Use the Tab and Arrow keys to operate the slider. Select the slider by pressing the Tab key several times. When it is selected, it is surrounded by an orange frame.

Each time you press the Right Arrow or the Up Arrow, the size becomes larger in the following order: 50-75-100-125-150-175-200-300-400-600%

Each time you press the Left Arrow or the Down Arrow, the size becomes smaller in the following order: 600-400-300-200-175-150-125-100-75-50%

Changing Easy Web Browsing Advanced Settings
 
Various other functions are available with Easy Web Browsing so that you can enjoy network surfing more conveniently and comfortably. For details on how to change advanced settings, please see this.

 Easy Web Browsing Requirements
♦  Operating System
 
  Usable with Windows 2000 and Windows XP
 
♦  Browser
 
  MicroSoft Internet Explorer version 5.5 or higher with Service Pack 2 (SP2) is required. Internet Explorer 6 or higher is strongly recommended.

* You can check the version you are using by accessing Internet Explorer Help, About. If your version is not compatible, you can upgrade to a later version via the Internet.
 
 Hardware requirements

  The following conditions are required when using Easy Web Browsing.
  CPU (processor): Pentium 500MHz or higher
Installed memory (storage capacity): 128MB or higher
Available hard disk capacity: 500MB or higher
Display (display capacity): XGA (1024x768 pixel) 65,536 colors or more
Sound (sound source): 16 bits or more that are compatible with the required OS above
Network (communication environment): Broadband connection of 512Kbps or higher (ADSL, CATV, etc.)

 Problems and solutions
 
 The initial download fails before completion.
  If you are using firewall software for anti-virus protection of your PC, your initial download may fail before completion depending on the setting of the firewall software. Check the setting of the firewall software.
* Firewall software: Program to protect PCs from outside intrusion and make them safe
 Speech response is slow.
  Responses may be delayed a little, or it may take time before speech starts, depending on Web page configuration.
Please wait a little until responses are made after you move the mouse.
 Speech is not correct.
  Speech errors may occur depending on the sentence that is read.
This happens because the voice synthesis engine of Easy Web Browsing is not compatible.
 Speech omits some portion of a page. Easy Web Browsing speaks text not pointed to by the mouse pointer. off the point.
  Some pages do not allow speech depending on page layout.

* Page layout: Represents page configuration, and ways of creating pages
 Reading ignores the designated speech point.
  Pages cannot be read if the page contains text that is coded with HTML. This can happen in a case such as a page containing the contents of a mail magazine. A page must be read as a block from the beginning to the end at all times, irrespective of a point that is designated on that page.
* Mail magazine: Magazine that is regularly issued to subscribers via e-mails.
* HTML: Language used to build and display Internet pages.
 Operation buttons and the setting panel have disappeared.
  If Easy Web Browsing has been used for a long time, the button display may disappear in while you are browsing. Click any vacant point on the button or in the setting panel.
 A change of style is not reflected after the page is moved.
  A response may be delayed a little, or it may take time to adjust a style or screen magnification, depending on page configuration.
Please wait while the change in style is reflected.
 Easy Web Browsing aborted with an error display.
  Restart Internet Explorer. If your PC does not respond, please turn it off and restart.
 A page pop-up window is not displayed in front.
  A pop-up window is not displayed in front even if it is opened.
Click the Back button.

* Window: An independent and small screen that is prepared at the startup of a program. An image and document are displayed on such screen.
* Pop-up: To open a new window automatically and display separate contents. Or such window.
 Cannot return to the previous page from a pop-up window.
  On some pages, returning to the previous page is not possible from the pop-up window.
In this case, please restart by clicking the Default button, or return to the previous page by clicking the Back button three times or more.
 A small window cannot be maximized when two or more pop-up windows are opened.
  One of the pop-up windows may not be maximized.
If you want to close this pop-up window, click the Close button on that page or, close the pop-up window by clicking x on the upper right corner of the window.
 The magnified part moved upward incorrectly after the PC recovered from standby conditions.
  When the PC is recovered from standby conditions, the text magnification part may move upward incorrectly.
In this case, please restart Easy Web Browsing.

* Standby: Conditions in which nothing is displayed on the screen by retaining the conditions immediately before the PC is turned off for the purpose of saving power consumption.
 Easy Web Browsing aborted because software that automatically closes pop-up ads was being used at the same time.
  If you use software that automatically closes pop-up advertisements together with Easy Web Browsing, browsing may abort when the pop-up ads are closed. In that case, exit the software that automatically closes pop-up ads, and do not to use it with Easy Web Browsing.
